点评：I’m not sure about any recent developments or construction near Kirkjufell or the paid parking area, as we visited back in July, but the falls near the infamous mountain on the Snaefellsnes peninsula in Western Iceland offers the best spot for taking those iconic images and is quite the attraction itself. You don’t have to hike (typically) to get to this small, rolling series of waterfalls across the road from the base of Kirkjufell, closer to the town of Grundarfjörður (where there’s some killer dining options, our favorite being Bjargarsteinn which also has a very nice view of the mountain).
There’s plenty of marked signs displaying info on how to respectfully enjoy the area (no drones), stay safe and pay for parking; be sure to snap pics of your car for reference and any ticket or receipt from a parking stanchion or screen shot from a mobile app you’re using to pay. This will help resolve any issues with the car rental company or address any delayed citations you may receive via email or real mail.
We passed through this area three times on our journey throughout the Snaefellsness, and got a little different weather each time. The final time through, we stopped for photos, and even though this was one of the busier falls as far as tourist foot traffic on the peninsula, it was beautiful and well worth the stop, particularly if you want those famous and all-encompassing views of Kirkjufell.
