点评:I went for a walk after a day at Arundel and found these 16th century ruins by chance. How are they so low profile? The best thing I saw today by a country mile, and I could only see them at a distance. They are BEAUTIFUL, particularly in the evening sunshine, and so evocative. If you’re a fan of ruins, go see them; they’re up there with places like Fountains Abbey and Rievaulx in my opinion. What a tragedy to have lost such a beautiful place to fire. I understand that tours are available but only on a weekend.
If you’re feeling fit, walk up to Midhurst Castle; an overly grand name for the remnants of a 11th century Norman motte and bailey site but it’s well done, with partially built walls outlining the key areas of the site very effectively. From there you can walk down into Midhurst along the public footpath, worth doing to see the very pretty ?medieval buildings around the square, and walk back through a wild grasslands area to the ruins. A really unexpected and excellent evening.
