点评:Amazing, gorgeous, and breathtaking place! However, we witnessed multiple disturbing and concerning events regarding the treatment of the pack mules on the trail. We did not use the mules to carry out gear (we carried our own gear), but we came across countless groups of mules during our hike. The conditions with which these mules were being forced to travel were scary and unsafe for both the animals and the hikers. The animals were tightly tethered together, including by the neck, and were being driven forward at a run with yelling and the use of a whip. They were not allowed to slow down or stop. The pace and proximity of the animals appeared to create significant stress among the groups. I witnessed two mule groups become spooked and collide with one another. One mule fell to the ground and did not get up while we were present, and another lost its pack during the incident. I did not take photographs or video out of respect for those involved, but it was distressing to witness. At the trailhead, I observed several teams of mules tied near the pavilion area with limited shade. Some were tied so tightly that they could not move their heads, and no water was available for them. Havasupai Falls was an INCREDIBLE place to visit, but please carry your own gear (or make your friend carry it for you hehe!) , but please do NOT book a mule to carry your gear for you.
