点评:It is easy in Gateway National Park to get lost in the Arch; however, there is an equally great counterpart that is often overlooked, the Old Courthouse. When we visited Gateway National Park in 2022, the courthouse was under renovation and closed to the public. So, when I saw I had 30 minutes between its 9:00 AM opening and sufficient time to be at the airport to return home, I knew I needed to visit and so glad I did.
Gateway National Park and the Old Courthouse are free to visit, and at opening, you will have the building to yourself without a crowd. The reason you visit is twofold. Part of it is the history of a building originally built in 1828 that had people like Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis practice there and that had court cases like the Dred Scott Case held there. The other part is to see an incredibly beautiful Greek Revival style building that looks like a Capitol. With the renovations complete, the interior is stunning, especially the dome. It is a must see and a great visit, especially if you are in downtown St. Louis and already at Gateway National Park visiting the Arch.
