Beautiful old Spanish mission church that’s worth the short drive from Tucson

点评：I visited the old Spanish mission church of San Xavier del Bac just south of Tucson recently. The present church was built between 1783 and 1797. I'd been there once before, but that was over 30 years earlier. The church is quite easy to find once you exit the freeway due to its bright white painted walls and towers contrasting with the landscape. There's plenty of parking right outside. Unfortunately the ornate central part of the church facade was obscured by scaffolding when I visited but the interior, with its domed ceilings and tall central dome plus its rich ornamentation, was fascinating to see. It doesn't take long to look through the building, and there's not much more to see other than the interior, so it didn't take me more than 15-20 minutes. If you're in Tucson it's a short and worthwhile detour if you're interested in Spanish colonial church architecture.
