Golden Monkeys Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

点评：I went to Kigali for a conference, and I didn't want to go back home without glancing at Rwandan nature. I didn't have a lot of time or budget, so this one-day tour from Kigali to see the golden monkeys (Cercopithecus mitis kandti) was a good option.
The driver came to pick me up at my hotel early (4:30 AM) so we could be on time at Volcanoes NP headquarters for the introduction to the trekking at 7:00 AM. The car and the road were good, so catching up on some sleep on the way was possible. Once in the headquarters, we joined other travellers to introduce ourselves to the Golden Monkey Trekking and then went to the starting point. We walked less than an hour up to the Park's border. The terrain was a little steep but manageable without being particularly fit. The monkeys were close to the Park's border, and we spent one hour with them while they fed, groomed and played in a single spot.
Before stopping for lunch, we added a little unplanned extra to the trip and went to see the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. The campus houses an exposition on Dian Fossey's work and life, mountain gorillas, and current research and conservation work at the Park. There are a couple of nature trails around the complex, a café, and a gift shop. It is a worthwhile visit.
Overall, I was very happy I joined the tour with Birding and Educational Tours LTD and everything, from the first communications to the end of the tour, went well and with professionalism.
