点评：If you are traveling near Rocky Top, Tennessee, please stop in to the Coal Creek Miners Museum. Currently in a former bank building, a dedicated band of volunteers are keeping the important history of the coal miners & their families alive. My husband, daughter, grandson & I were treated to a walk through by volunteer Robert Griffith. This is a low key museum striving constantly to expand their exhibits. The coal companies paid the miners in script, useless anywhere except the “company store”. They lived in company houses. This meant after injury or death of the miners, the family would soon be homeless too.The Fraterville mining disaster in 1902 is still the worst mining disaster in the American south. Although companies did issue compensation for loss of a miner’s life, often men were temp workers or boys and the family was given no compensation for them. There were 216 men & boys killed. The heart and soul of these volunteers is amazing. This story needs to stay alive and appreciated.
There is an elevator for mobility impaired folks.
