Very engaging guide, and an appreciation of how Savannah was 'saved'
Davenport House Museum的点评
点评:Though this house shares a rough date of construction with some of the others you can tour, it 'feels' older - Federal, almost Georgian in some ways, and certainly not Greek Revival - which it might have been given its construction period. But then owner was a master builder, a skilled tradesman if you will - and not landed gentry with a city home. Almost austere inside, done in a different period and on a much simpler (and less expensive) scale than its viewable contemporaries. You could call it a palette cleanser if interspersed with some of the more ornate house museums. Really gratified to learn the history of the 'Seven Ladies' who spearheaded the whole preservation movement in Savannah and you can take some time to read about them after the tour (they get an intro at the beginning) Engaging tour guide. Rock solid floating staircase (having been in houses where one is nervously instructed to hug the wall) And oh yes, there is a third floor which you just might see.....
