During our visit, there were 4 significant malfunctions with the room during the first bit, and we following the directions (waving our arms) many times to get help. You would normally call them hints, but we realized after the fact that it was just issues that were already there and hadn't been fixed. After 29 minutes, I left the room and went to the front desk to get some help. There was no one there and I waited at the desk for a few more minutes before anyone showed up. Anyway, the reason for the bad review isn't for the malfunctions--it's because there was NO GAMEMASTER to solve the issues. They did help more during the last 20 minutes or so of the game, but being completely frustrated with broken equipment for the first 30 minutes with no-one to point out the broken stuff, standing at a desk, and scrambling for the final 20 minutes is not the experience that was advertised.
1. The fingerprint reader did not read the fingerprint. We must have tried it 15 times and eventually concluded we were doing something wrong. Turns out, it just doesn't work very well. After the game was over, the gamemaster had to try three times to "show us it worked".
2. There was a screwdriver in a bucket that was meant as a "key" for two broken locks. We had no way of knowing that and with no gamemaster to assist, this was pretty frustrating. These were $6 home depot locks that they could have easily replaced long ago.
3. The RFID reader malfunctioned multiple times--we did not realize it was just broken, and there was no gamemaster to confirm we had the right card so we could keep trying.
4. We went through the tone generator sequence like 4 times before giving up. The microphone does not accurately read the tone. It took some additional information to finesse the system, which we finally received after the gamemaster showed up almost 40 minutes in.
Really, it was an extremely stressful experience for everyone. No one enjoyed it at all. It was my sister's first escape room experience, and I don't think she will ever visit one again.
Based on my reading of other reviews, they probably generally tell people that it's a "difficult" room and not many people pass and they just weren't very good. At the end of the day, the puzzles are quite easy, but a lot of stuff is broken, and fiddling with stuff is what keeps you from getting through. We had all the right answers--we just didn't know it since there was no gamemaster to tell us that you had to keep scanning an rfid card, or clean the fingerprint reader and keep trying over and over, or that a screwdriver is used to open the lock.
$180 for an honestly pretty terrible experience. I love escape rooms! And will keep doing them. My sister probably won't. This was just a bad experience at a place that's understaffed and has lots of excuses rather than solutions--kind of ironic for an escape room joint.
