Incredible place! A must see, but even better at night!

点评：One of the most underrated parks in the NPS that we’ve been to, and we love NPS and the outdoors. It really was like a moonscape. To truly enjoy it on another level, I highly recommend going late afternoon/early evening. We did Inferno Cone and Spatter cones right before a beautiful sunset. It was very windy but temperature-wise it was comfortable. I would imagine that the dark volcanic rock radiates a lot of heat during the midday heat. Using headlamps and staying on the paved paths, we walked the bat caves trail to the Indian Tunnel. Again, it was otherworldly and incredible. And a little creepy with the occasional bat flying around! By this time, the stars were coming out and we set up for our astrophotography session and captured the Milky Way.
My only regret is that we should have camped instead of driving back with deer along Rt 26.
