We spent 2 nights and 3 days in the Uppuveli area and thoroughly enjoyed the beach. The sand is soft, clean, and white, and the water was calm enough for long periods of swimming. We spent more than three hours nonstop in the ocean, which says a lot about how enjoyable the conditions were.
The beach near Blue Sand Beach Resort and the popular Fernando's Bar is particularly nice, with plenty of space to relax and swim. The water was warm and inviting, and the shoreline was kept relatively clean during our stay.
There is no shortage of activities. Along the beach you'll find tour operators offering snorkeling trips, scuba diving, whale watching excursions, jet ski rentals, and other water sports. Whether you're looking for adventure or simply want to spend the day in the water, there are plenty of options.
One thing to be aware of is that some beachfront bars and restaurants charge significantly higher prices than places a short walk inland. You're paying for the location and view. That said, the swimming and beach experience are what make Uppuveli worth visiting.
