Chateau-sur-Mer的点评
点评：Chateau-Sur-Met is one of the oldest grand mansions on Bellevue Avenue in Newport. It had been built in 1852 for China trade merchant William Shepard Wetmore and then underwent renovation in 1870.
In my opinion, it is one of the most elegant and exquisitely decorated grand “cottages” of Newport, which reflects immaculate taste of its owners. The Wetmore family owned it for three generations and now it belongs to the Preservation Society of Newport.
The woodwork of the staircase and the walls is especially spectacular as well as its beautiful French style furniture and silks. The interior of Chateau-Sur-Mer has nothing overwhelming or gaudy… it is just grace and harmony.
One of the best things was that it doesn’t attract the crowds as much as The Breakers or Marble House - we were browsing its beautiful rooms almost alone.
The grounds are lovely. We were fascinated by the huge tree near the entrance with its enormous twisted branches which create a whimsical “cave” inside it.
The mansion has its own parking and is free for NARM members.
We will be back.
