点评:After visiting the Nakalele Blowhole, which was great on its own, we decided to continue north on Kahekili Highway. Compared with this drive, the Road to Hana felt like a walk in the park. I had never experienced a road with no guardrails and sheer drop-offs that appeared to be anywhere from 300 to 1,000 feet—or more.
Calling it a highway is generous. Much of it is really a narrow, one-lane road winding around the mountains. The views are breathtaking, but so are the drop-offs if you make one wrong move. Several times, one vehicle had to back up so another could pass—all without guardrails.
It took us a couple of hours to complete the drive, but the scenery and experience made it worthwhile. If you’re afraid of heights, DO NOT take this route.
We even passed homes along the way and were surprised that people actually live in such a remote area.
If you’re looking for an adventure and don’t mind driving as slowly as 10 miles per hour around sharp hairpin turns, this road may be for you. It was nerve-racking, unforgettable, and definitely worth experiencing.
