Whitehead Railway Station的点评
点评：Great old station, especially compared to other modern monstrosities on the Larne Line. Much of the red brick sections date to 1877, while the waiting area canopy and signal tower are from the 1890s. Great old iron footbridge at the south end of the platforms.
The station was spacious and handsome enough to be used for a location shoot for the TV comedy Derry Girls (26 April 2022). Normally film crews use the nearby Railway Preservation of Ireland base, Whitehead Excursion Station. Its on a siding where no regular trains rumble through to spoil the period look of the place.
I was early for my train and spent some time in the waiting room. There are bookshelves where you can pick up something to read, for free. A lit up board tells you the time and when the trains are due. There’s awards the station has won, thanks to the local conductor and the volunteers from the Brighter Whitehead group, plus photos. The station is well sited, and very close by you have the promenade by the sea, Beach Road Nature Reserve, several restaurants and a big free park and ride car park.
