点评:We hiked this levada trail as a recommendation from a colleague. The trail is beautiful and nicely shaded. The adorable quaint houses at the beginning are a great start to the adventure. The hike starts off easy with trail meandering through forests and eventually becoming a levada trail. The trail is very narrow in most parts with no area to move out of the way for oncoming hikers. Because of this, I do not recommend for children. My kids are 12 and 14 and were fine, but too much younger than 12 could be difficult if they are not able to pay attention for many hours as it is a long hike and only a thin wire guard rail. Towards the last quarter of the hike the vegetation is not as dense and you can easily see the vertical drop next to the trail, and some parts just have a thin wire guard rail next to you and nothing else. If you have a fear of heights, this last potion will test your fear. The other thing to consider is that because the trail is so narrow, you can’t overtake the slow hikers in front of you. In the U.S., slower hikers move out of the way, which we have found is not done in Europe. Add that to no physical space to pass and you can be stuck behind a large group going very slow for a long time, adding to your hike time on a relatively popular trail. Note there are few locations for a good view out over the mountains, but several waterfalls and tunnels to add some spice.
