点评:Wind Cave Nature Reserve
Located just 39 km from Kuching City Centre (about 1 hour drive), Wind Cave Nature Reserve is a protected area known for its unique limestone formations, rich biodiversity and cultural heritage.
Surrounded by limestone forest, the reserve is home to rare plant species such as Arenga pinnata (Inyok), Arenga undulatifolia (Opip), and Calamus ornatus (Wi Jelayan), reflecting the heritage of the local Bidayuh community.
Wildlife is abundant here. Visitors may spot squirrels, birds, and other small animals around the area. Inside the cave, you will find black-nest swiftlets and up to 14 species of bats, along with unique snail species that thrive in this special environment.
Explore the Cave
Wind Cave gets its name from the cool natural breeze flowing through its passages. Formed around 60 million years ago, this limestone cave offers a fascinating glimpse into Sarawak’s geological past.
A 1,000-metre wooden plankwalk allows for safe and easy exploration. As the cave is unlit, visitors are advised to bring a flashlight. A small stream runs through the cave and connects to Sungai Sarawak Kanan.
Inside, admire beautiful natural formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, and limestone pillars. You can also observe unique features like honeycomb patterns that reveal the movement of water over time.
A Unique Highlight
One of the main attractions is the shell fossils embedded in the cave walls, clearly visible along the walkway—evidence that this area was once beneath the sea millions of years ago.
At the end of the cave, the path leads to a scenic view of Sungai Sarawak Kanan, offering a peaceful and refreshing finale to your visit.
