Buckler's Hard的点评
点评：One has to pass through the commercialised aspects of the hamlet - the carpark and the cafe- to reach the architecturally acceptable cottages. The wide street leads down to the water's edge.
Stand still and visualise the different tradesmen toiling at their craft occupying the entire width of the street .
Across the airwaves one can hear a sea shanty from the direction of the river bank. Here is an excellent open air exhibition of shipwright endeavours working on local oak. Three apprentices are working on a capstan to the rhythm of the shanty.
Theirs is a skill to be admired.
Nearby a sign advertises a boat trip which manoeuvres through the numerous ocean going yachts at anchor.
The boat's skipper relates the history of the river, it's ownership from medieval times to the modern day.
Back on dry land a small exhibition is to be seen in a stand alone hut. Across the street a cottage has been dressed with family members shown going about their daily lives.
Next door the Chapel , converted from a school room, provides a haven away from the hustle and bustle of the ship building world.
