点评：This unguarded beach is known for treacherous rip currents and an unthinkable number of deaths just in the last 2 years.
As of July 2025 there are no flag systems or signage warning beach goers of the potential danger.
Chase Childers, 38 year old husband, and father of 3 drowned at Litchfield Beach on Pawley’s Island on Sunday, July 13th, 2025 while rescuing a family of 5 caught in a deadly rip current.
And he was a former professional baseball player then a police officer
This horrific tragedy was preceded by another devastating loss of life due to a deadly rip current in the same area only two days before, on July 11th.
Five drownings in the past twenty six months is unacceptable, and two drownings within two days is inconceivable. Without his heroics it would have been six deaths in two days.
His family is hoping the island will implement some safety improvements.
If possible only swim at guarded beaches and learn how to identify rip currents before entering the ocean and how to swim parallel to beach until it releases you don't exhaust yourself trying to fight it going directly back towards the shore.
