点评:We loved our spontaneous visit at the time BUT we had a terrible time with ticks in the days following.
We were only in the park a few hours. We had our dog with us and just planned to drive through with a few quick stops. We were in a parking lot by a trailhead when a number of horses surprised us and we moved to the short grass at the edge of the parking lot. We weren’t in the trees or in high grass. Over the next few days we found ticks on both of us and our dog. An expert identified them as Lone Star ticks. Turns out they’re very active in spring and they’re very aggressive. We’re typically very careful to take precautions to avoid bug bites but after a lifetime of visiting Ocean City it never occurred to us that such a quick stop in a parking lot could result in such a serious situation.
Even on the briefest visits you need to be prepared with repellent and check yourself thoroughly and repeatedly for days following your visit. I can’t imagine how campers who are staying in the park for days manage it. Tick-bourne illnesses can be serious so we have to be on the lookout for symptoms over the next few months. Enjoy your visit to this wonderful park but be aware of this hidden danger.
