点评:Canyon de Chelly is managed by National Park Services. It took us about 1.5 hour to do the South Rim Drive, and visited the 7 overlooks (Spider Rock, Face Rock, Sliding House, White House, Junction, Tsegi and Junction.) The Canyon de Chelly Valley is occupied by different group of people (Archaic from 2500-200 BCE, Basketmaker from 200BCE-750CE, Pueblo from 750-1300, Hopi from 1300-1600, Navajo from 1700-1863, and the US Army from 1863 onwards).
The Rim Drive is free to use. We met some locals (Navajo tribe folks?) that stayed nearby in ramblers and trailer parks. We are told that part of the driveway was blocked during the Covid period, and is only recently opened. It appears that the North Rim Drive is in good condition, but there are only 3 overlooks there. The South Rim Drive is only paved to the Spider Rock Overlook, and the rest is unmaintained dirt road, so it is not recommended to drive a loop around the canyon.
The view at the Overlook is good and interesting.
