A Unique Feature in Jackson Hole
Antler Arches of Jackson的点评
点评：These Arches made from Elk Antlers are unique to this city. We saw four of these in the Town Square and one smaller one at the Airport. At night they are lit up.
Each Arch is supported by a steel frame and constructed by hand using 2000 Antlers and weighs about 14000 pounds. They are held together by the antler curves skillfully woven into each other and need to be rebuilt every 50 years or so. The first one was erected in 1953. It was an instant hit with the locals and the visitors. So, they erected several more.
Every Spring, the Elk arrive at the Elk Refuge and shed their antlers. It became a local tradition for the local Boy Scouts Troops to collect and harvest them. In May, the community celebrates Elk Fest – a multi-day festival during which these harvested antlers are auctioned off the bidders from around the world. Many local businesses have also decorated their interiors and exteriors with them.
No visit to this city would be complete without a visit to photograph yourselves under them. If we did not have the right lighting with one, we just walked over to the other ones to get our desired photos.
