Petrified Forest National Park的点评
点评：We were visiting 6 national parks on a two week road trip. The Petrified Forest was on our way to Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. And I would leave it at that. It was on our way.
The park is split by Route 40 going from California to New Mexico. Unless you have a trailer to camp in, the nearest hotels are 20+ miles away and offer limited accommodations. Hence, we were passing through.
Traveling east, we elected to go in through the south entrance off Route 180 which we picked up just outside Holbrook. That way we could go point-to-point on our way back to Route 40 and onto Colorado. Unlike some of the national parks we had visited on this journey (Bryce, Zion, Capital Reef), there just wasn't anything really memorable about this park. The better views were on the northern side where the Painted Forest is located. I can imagine at sunset the colors on the rocks would be pretty extraordinary. Other than wood turned to calcified rock, nothing to see here.
