点评:Kagurazaka was one of the most enjoyable neighbourhoods we visited in Tokyo and felt completely different from the city’s better-known tourist districts. It has a unique atmosphere where modern Tokyo blends effortlessly with old Japan.
We spent several hours simply wandering through the area, exploring the charming backstreets and hidden alleys. Kakurenbo Yokocho (Hide-and-Seek Alley) and Hyogo Yokocho were particular highlights, with their traditional stone-paved lanes, lanterns and discreet entrances to long-established restaurants. Walking through these quiet passageways felt like stepping back in time.
We also visited Akagi Shrine, which was fascinating for its blend of contemporary architecture and traditional Japanese spirituality. The contrast between old and new perfectly reflects the character of Kagurazaka itself.
The main slope of Kagurazaka Street is lined with excellent cafés, bakeries, boutiques and small independent shops, making it a wonderful area to explore without any particular destination in mind. Unlike some of Tokyo’s more crowded districts, there is a relaxed and refined atmosphere here that encourages you to slow down and enjoy the surroundings.
What impressed us most was the authenticity of the neighbourhood. Rather than feeling designed for tourists, Kagurazaka feels like a living part of Tokyo where local residents, students, businesspeople and visitors all mix naturally. Around almost every corner there seemed to be another hidden shrine, traditional restaurant or picturesque alley waiting to be discovered.
If you’re looking for a side of Tokyo that combines history, culture, excellent food and genuine local character, Kagurazaka is absolutely worth visiting. It was one of the most memorable areas we experienced during our trip and a place we would happily return to on our next visit to Japan. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
