When singer/songwriter Taylor Swift, who lived in Nashville during the beginning of her music career, returned in 2003 for her Eras Tour, a bench dedicated to her was installed in the park. Located at 2500 West End Avenue, two miles west of downtown Nashville, across the street from the campus of Vanderbilt University, Centennial Park is a 132-acre urban park that opened in 1903 and is most famous for being the site of the Parthenon, one of Nashville's most recognizable attractions. Once a farmland owned by one of the city's earliest and richest families, it had a large sheep herd, a son who was known as the "Wool King of the World," owned 300 slaves and produced a daughter who married Andrew Jackson. The park also contains Lake Watauga, a small artificial lake, sunken gardens, a bandshell, the Confederate Private Monument, a recreation center, the Tennessee Woman Suffrage Monument and Cockrill Springs. In 2005, the park became Nashville's first wireless internet park by offering free Wi-Fi internet access to park patrons.
