点评:I first visited here in the 1980s as my Grandfather is buried here. His name is on the Menin Gate in Ypres and when there looking for his name we discovered books in the pillars which recorded names and addresses of the deceased. Someone had written in pencil that he was buried in Sanctuary Wood cemetery. Off we went and found his grave . Some years later we took my father to see his father’s grave a very moving day. My father was born in 1912 and his father was killed in May 1915 at Hill 62 Sanctuary Wood so he never knew his father. Strangely, my father was a bomb aimer in a Lancaster during the second world war and they were shot down in 1942 over Belgium and landed about half an hour from here, they all bailed out and landed safely. They were captured the next day and spent the rest of the war in Stalag Vlllb / 344 In Poland. I was born in 1941 so don’t remember my father until he came home in 1945.
My Grandfather had fought in the Boer War and was in the siege of Ladysmith.
Hope this is of interest to anyone visiting .

我的祖父参加过布尔战争,也曾参与过莱迪史密斯围城战。
