点评:We always enjoy coming down to Eastbourne and stopping at Holy Well beach for a walk and a sit on the beach at the quieter end of the promenade. As yesterday was glorious we did exactly that.
However, we were dismayed to find the public toilets have had a barrier installed, which one has to pay £1, only by credit card (no cash payments) to use the facility. This is an exhorbitant price to pay to "spend a penny".
To make matters worse, after paying to enter, the ladies' toilets were in a disgusting condition: the floor was awash with water, the cubicles were filthy, with toilet paper strewn all around, paint peeling off the walls and doors, no soap in the dispenser and handdryer not in operation. There was a lady, almost in tears, having paid her £1, who couldn't bring herself to use the facility.
These are the only public toilets in the area, which has no cafes or restaurants which could be used in an emergency (the cafe on site directs customers to use the public toilets).
This is a disgrace - the toilets should be returned to being free of charge, or at least have a nominal charge of perhaps 20p (cash or card) and they should be cleaned and maintained on a regular basis, otherwise I can well imagine that users of Holy Well beach may resort to using the nearby undergrowth for their needs!
