点评:I was passing through Dedza and by good fortune a friend told me about the rock paintings which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We were referred to a local guide called Simeon Samson, and as we had limited time we went to the Mphunzi site, driving on dirt roads through a village to the site. We walked up the mountain to the magnificent paintings in a cave made by Chichewa women as part of a coming of age ceremony. Coming down there was a wonderful view from a boulder overlooking the valley and mountains. At the bottom of the mountain there are other even older sites, of red rock paintings by 'pygmies' (sic) - most interesting, indicating menstrual cycles of women; ladders and a moon to symbolise achievement (according to our guide); and really marvellous giraffe paintings. We had interesting debates about what happened to the hunter-gatherers; saw the old church (built in 1914) and visited the clinic as well.
