We really enjoyed our visit to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. The museum offers an incredible journey through the history of our planet, with something interesting around practically every corner.
Some of the highlights for us were seeing the legendary Hope Diamond, standing beneath the enormous whale in the Sant Ocean Hall, exploring the incredible dinosaur fossils in the David H. Koch Hall of Fossils – Deep Time, visiting the Hall of Human Origins, and seeing ancient Egyptian mummies up close.
The variety of exhibitions is impressive, and each gallery offers a completely different experience. You can easily spend several hours here, especially if you want to take your time and really explore the collections.
Another huge advantage is that admission is free, which makes this museum an excellent stop when exploring Washington, D.C.
One useful tip: if you arrive and see a long line at one entrance, don’t automatically join it. Walk around the building and check the entrance on the opposite side. When we visited, hundreds of people were waiting at one entrance, while we were able to enter through the other side in less than a minute. This simple tip saved us a considerable amount of time.
Whether you’re interested in natural history, science, dinosaurs, ancient civilizations, or simply discovering extraordinary places, this museum is definitely worth visiting.
