点评:The ride itself is indeed a novelty as the cable cars are steeped in history and is definitely a mascot for the city. On a practical side, it saved us the effort and challenge of walking uphill from Fisherman's Wharf to Lombard Street.
However, it stopped short of a totally good experience for me because of certain areas that need improvement. One is the comfort of its riders. It was raining when we waited at the turntable for the car to arrive. There is no covered walkway nor any form of shelter at the waiting area. All passengers just stood there in the open being pelted by rain, including children. Signages are also lacking, in terms of where to purchase tickets and the waiting/queuing areas.
While most of the staff were courteous and helpful, especially in repeatedly explaining the reason for the delay in arrival of the car which we waited for, I did notice an exception. A fellow rider tried unsuccessfully to purchase tickets from the vending machine. He approached a staff for help only to be told, "This is not my responsibility". At least pointing the rider to the ticketing booth will be helpful but no, it did not happen.
If your objective is to "tick the box" of one of San Francisco's most iconic tourist attraction, this is for you. Otherwise, you can consider other options.
