点评:Rancho Texas is a water and animal themed attraction themed around the American Wild West, located about a half an hour coach ride from Playa Blanca. Split into two parks, there is the animal park, which consists of animal exhibitions and live shows, as well as a fast food restaurant and an indoor restaurant that serves the same menu but serves you at the table. The second park, which we did not go to, was the water park which, from what we could see, was decent enough to entertain younger children for a couple of hours, but not so much that I would have thought for teenagers or adults. We forgot our swimming gear, which is why we never ended up going, so if you do go, don't be like us and take some swimming costumes and towels.
We organised our excursion through the TUI app before going and it cost 88 pounds for both of us. It sounds like a lot of money, but you arrive at the park around 09.30 and get picked up at 5.10 so you have a full day in the park(s). When you exit the bus, you are dropped off at the entrance, where ticket desks are located. You show them your confirmed booking, and then you are issued with tickets for your party, which you must keep because you hand them back at the end of the trip as they act as your return bus ticket.
The journey to the Rancho is quite scenic, and you get to see the volcanic landscape that makes up Lanzarote's character. As the coach approaches the halfway mark, look out for the camel statues that appear on the roundabout on your left, which you will have passed going to Playa Blanca from the airport. The Ranch itself just seems to appear out of nowhere and just seems to exist in its own space, but I think this is what adds to its character.
As you enter the park, it splits off left and right in a large circle so whichever way you go, you will still see everything. We went left, and the first part we came to was the reptilium, which contained a large number of different reptiles, each visible through glass and with information about each located next to their enclosure. We then looked at the different birds that you had, who seemed happy enough and were chirping along when they weren't splashing in their bath (and me in the face). As well as animals in their enclosures, as you make your way around the grounds, you can see horses, ponies, tortoises, flamingos and a range of other animals that flow freely within their own open enclosure. The tigers are kept in their own enclosure with thick glass between you and them and a space that looks like something out of Tomb Raider.
As well as the ability to wander around the park freely, there are specific animal shows throughout the day: Seal feeding, Dolphin show, Bird of Prey show and a parrot show. The shows are advertised on different posts throughout the park, and you just arrive at the space on the map prior to that time to be let in. We saw all four shows, and it was amazing. The Birds of Prey show was cool as the birds are trained to swoop low and just over your head, which made me duck a couple of times. The seal feeding show was informative as you learn about seals and how they differ from sea lions. The bird show is bright and colourful, and the birds appear to enjoy it as they get very loud. My absolute favourite, though, had to be the dolphin show. As the dolphins flipped and hurled themselves in unison and performed various tricks, I genuinely sat open-mouthed. It was great entertainment, but also great to hear about how the ranch looks after them. There is the opportunity for photos at each show, but at an additional cost.
I have to say that, considering there was a coachload of us, the park is so big that we were able to wander around without seeing many people for long periods of time. This gave the park an almost abandoned feeling, and I was never really sure where everyone was.
On site, there are toilets at the entrance and up near the dolphins, there are drinks vending machines. There are also vending machines next to the restaurant and fast food venue (next to each other).
I was surprised to find the restaurant empty, and I was pleasantly surprised that even as a captive audience, 44 Euros for two mains and two pints of beer seemed very reasonable.
Initially, when we arrived, I was worried that being there for a full day would mean spending a fortune or getting bored and being stuck there, but we ended up catching all the shows and were able to wander around without rushing.
At the end of the day, we went to the gift shop before making our way through the exit to wait for the coach. As the coach arrives, a member of staff fronts the queue and checks which hotel you are staying at before taking your ticket and allowing you to board the bus.
Overall, I think that this is a great experience and definitely worth a visit. The theming is consistent and really does feel like you are transported to a random part of Texas during the frontier of America. We did this as a couple with no kids and thoroughly enjoyed it.
