点评:We've been to city markets all over North America and Europe. They range from wholesale food markets to charming precursors to supermarkets, to take-out establishments, to, essentially, flea markets. And a lot in between.
The Charleston City Market deals mostly in goods, not food. It has a range of handmade crafts, T-shirts (of course), and other items. The market is only about 50 feet wide, but it goes along for several blocks. We ended up buying some souvenir-type goods, coffee, and some cool butterfly displays. It's a good place to buy unique items or gifts to bring home or give to friends.
One thing it has never sold is slaves -- the slave market in Charleston was several hundred yards to the south and is now a museum of sorts.
For what it's worth, there are few or no food concessions within the market itself, but many across the streets either to the north or to the south. Just step out and its easy to find them.
This is one of the places most tourists visit in Charleston. That may or may not be an attraction for you, but this is a worthwhile site to visit. Skip what doesn't interest you and you might very well (as we did) find something you want to take home.
