We visited the garden centre cafe en-route to the falconry centre, which must draw in many visitors and help with sales. We needed lunch and did not want to leave the site. However we had to make do with a snack.
Our granddaughter (9) has severe allergic reactions to all types of nuts and sesame.
The serving staff could not offer her any safe food, other than a bag of crisps (we searched the packet for allergen information) and a bottled drink. There was no list of allergens in dishes and in any case we were told that there would always be a risk of cross-contamination. The servers were understanding and tried to be helpful.
The problem is that your restaurant does not cater for those suffering with allergies. This means that you are losing business - from those that are directly affected plus potentially their contacts and friends.
A disappointing footnote: As our granddaughter could not have a proper lunch, my wife and I just had scones. I ordered mine with jam. I was offered clotted cream, which I refused (and was not supplied). However, I have just noticed that I was charged £1.29 for clotted cream, regardless.
