George Washington's Mount Vernon的点评
点评：George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate is located between Alexandria (8 miles away ) and Washington, D.C. (15 miles away) and its visit is worth every minute of your time and every penny paid. Open 365 days a year, from 9 am - 5 pm. We bought tickets on the spot because we weren't sure of our arrival time, and visiting Washington's home requires a designated time slot on the ticket. No problem.
What beauty all around! The majestic home of America's first president, where he spent 45 years of his life, stands on the banks of the Potomac River. The Mansion is furnished and decorated to look at it did in 1799, the year he died. All rooms feature original objects, period pieces, and reproductions. I especially loved Washington's personal bedroom, decorated in crisp white. Please note: visiting the house requires climbing up and down stairs. The guided tour inside the house lasts approximately 45 minutes. All other areas you can explore at your own pace and spend as much time as you have.
The Estate is surrounded by four gardens and a vast wooded area, the botanical garden and fruit garden. Of course, we visited George Washington's tomb and his wife Martha with located in lower garden-forest. Not far away located Slave Memorial - the burial ground is marked by a memorial honoring the lived and contributions of the enslaved people who lived and worked here.
Don't miss the wonderful museum A Revolutionary Life dedicated to Washington's life, his development as a person and politician, and his contribution to world history.
I was impressed by the huge gift shop, which consists of two sections. We purchased a beautiful miniature crystal house with an image of Mount Vernon Estate, which has become a wonderful addition to our collection of houses from around the world.
