Beach Visit at Assateague State Park
Assateague State Park的点评
点评：This is a terrific beach and campground, right by the ocean. We stayed 5 nights in the campground with our RV, our 4th trip there. The vast majority of the sites are dry camping, as was ours. (It was a little tougher to keep our refrigerator going overnight this year because of the hot weather.)
The beach is wonderful. Horses! We saw plenty. The camp hosts keep the grounds clean, including twice-a-day horse poop patrols. The bathhouses are plentiful, clean, with hot water, and large sinks for cleaning dishes. The National Seashore, a separate park, is nearby, with its Visitor Center and historic Rackliffe House. A great seafood restaurant, Assateague Crab House, is just a couple of miles away.
In the past, we have given the park 5 stars. This year only 4. The mosquitos--particularly no-see-ems were ferocious, including inside the bathhouses. We got bit on every visit to shower there. We gave up on having a campfire as a result. Also, the sandy areas near campsites have sandburs. They hurt! We wore crocs on our way to the screen tent, but the bottoms were covered with the suckers. So, just beware, especially if you have a tent and must set up there.
