点评:From the outside, this 19th-century church of the Convent of the Discalced Carmelites (or ‘Carmelite Church’), in Lombard-Gothic revival style, looks rather plain. Finding it open, I couldn't resist the temptation to have a peek inside. The first impression of the predominantly white interior was one of soft light and pleasant harmony. While the chancel has traditional 19th century stained windows, the body of the church is illuminated by unusual and very striking slab glass and concrete windows designed by Father Eloi Devaux (1959). I walked around reading the information folder a friendly lady in a booth at the back of the church lent me, but apart from the windows, I saw little of interest.
In a separate hall, accessible from the church, there was a small, free photography exhibition entitled “L’invisible” (The Invisible) with photos by Father Giuliano Pallicca (until 6 April, 7.30 p.m. to 8 p.m., closed on Tuesday). All in all, a worthwhile visit.
