点评:The Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri is truly a piece of American history and still stands as one of America’s most recognizable and inspiring monuments. It was designed by Eero Saarinen after a country-wide competition. Construction began in February 1963 and was completed on October 28, 1965, at a cost of about $13 million. It’s a beautiful futuristic curve that rises 630 feet tall and wide. It is the tallest monument in the United States. Parking is available across the street at a multi-story garage (for a fee). Dropoff for mobility impaired is within a hundred feet of the entrance. It is free to enter and offers a great museum below the arch, once you pass through security screening. The museum is one of the best I’ve seen, with unique exhibits showing the westward expansion of America. It’s well done, informative, and deeply moving. They offer a signature tram ride to the top of the arch and a riverboat cruise on the Mississippi for a fee. Overall, the Gateway Arch is very impressive and represents uniquely iconic America at its best. I would definitely recommend it for anyone that wants to learn about America and how it grew into our country of today. I definitely recommend visiting and doing the ride to the top and the riverboat. We did them all and they gave us a different view of St Louis and the arch.
