点评:San Francisco Maritime NHP includes several sites, all within a short walk of each other. The Maritime Museum, built in a beautiful Streamline Moderne style, was once a bathhouse for the adjacent Aquatic Park and now has various displays on the building's history as well as ship models and bright murals of fanciful sealife.
The expansive Visitor Center is housed in an old cannery, and has a number of terrific exhibits about the history of the shipping industry as well as the diverse people who have come through San Francisco's port over the decades. Both the Maritime Museum and the Visitor Center are open to the public free of charge.
I was able to also check out Hyde Street Pier before it closed indefinitely for renovations. While only a few ships were actually open, there are good interpretive displays, and being able to climb aboard and explore the Balclutha, which once transported California grain to Europe, was a really cool experience.
Although the ships of the Hyde Street Pier will be unavailable for a few years, the other sites of this park are well worth a visit to learn about the area's rich past.
