点评:This is truly a little slice of heaven!! But... because this public park resides behind the gates of a private club/resort (with multi million dollar homes) arriving was just a little confusing. We loved everything about this place. We arrived early, about 8:00am. We had parking pass #3. As you turn towards the ocean off of HWY 19 (Queen Ka'ahumanu Hwy) it is a 1/4 mile drive to the guard shack of the Kukio Golf and Beach Club (gated community/club). There you can ask for a pass for the park. If the parking isn't full, the guard will hand you a pass. I believe there are only 27 (based on the parking spaces). You make a u-turn around the shack back towards the highway a short distance and hang a right onto an access road. You come to a gate. Push the call button and the guard will open the gate.
Follow the road for what feels like a mile or so to another gate that opens automatically as you approach it. A few minutes later you arrive at a dead end with a row of parking spaces. You have arrived!
From there is is about a 5 minute, easy, paved walk to the beach. Upon arrival you will see the bathrooms and outdoor showers.
As you walk across the firm sand to your right, you come to a nice soft sanded beach and lagoon area. This is perfect for small children as there is little tide to speak of. You can set up camp there... or on the firm sand area further back from the water. There are a lot of options.
You can also continue to the left towards the point. There you will find about a 40' x 100' grassy lawn with trees. (that is where we set up for the morning).
It was wonderful. I REALLY hate sand :) It was the most perfect beach-nonbeach experience I ever had.
To swim or snorkel you can walk the 60-70 yards or so (sorry, doing this from memory) back to the lagoon... or... you can walk in the other direction (north I think) towards the private beach club where you will see lounge chairs and cabanas. I assumed if we went near them we would be shot... so we stayed near the water's edge to reach a small path through the lava rock to a second beach. That path (if you can call it that is a little difficult having to be careful as you step. As soon a you exit the lava rock path, if you will look into the water... you will see sand. Everywhere else along the beach are stones as the entry point to the water. This is the perfect place for a swim or to snorkel.
Back at our grassy piece of heaven... we relaxed and watched the waves crash against the rocks. The perfect morning at the beach.
