点评：What They Don’t Tell You in the Brochure!
While visiting Amigo’s Castle in Lightning Ridge, we asked our guide about the man who built it, Vittorio Stefanato, known locally as “Amigo”. The guide didn’t want to discuss him, which naturally made us curious.
After our visit, we did some research and were shocked by what we discovered.
In 2020, Christine Neilan, a 39-year-old mother of four, was murdered at Stefanato’s property. Stefanato later admitted to police that he shot Christine at close range with a rifle and concealed her body. He was convicted of her murder and in 2023 was sentenced to 18 years and two months in prison, with a non-parole period of 13 years and seven months.
Had we known this history before visiting, we would not have gone.
The entry fee was $15 each. Personally, I found the castle interesting, but certainly didn’t think it was worth the price.
The place is extremely cluttered with collections of all sorts. Our guide described Amigo as a collector; after seeing the place for ourselves, we found the sheer amount of stuff out of place, rather than adding to the experience.
What really bothers me, though, is that visitors are apparently not told about the very serious history connected to the property.
I understand that people may have different views about whether this history should affect their decision to visit. For us, it absolutely would have. We felt like we had funded a killer. I believe visitors deserve enough information to make that choice for themselves. If you’re planning a visit to Amigo’s Castle, you may want to research its history before you go.

不过，真正让我介意的是，游客们显然并未被告知这座房产背后那段极为沉重的历史。
我理解人们对这段历史是否会影响他们的参观决定可能有着不同的看法。对我们而言……绝对会这样。我们当时觉得自己资助了一个“杀人犯”。我认为游客有权获得足够的信息来自己做出决定。如果你打算参观阿米戈城堡，或许事先了解一下它的历史会是个好主意。
