点评:The old town from the meadow at the foot of the hill on which it is located appears closer than it really is. However, the ascent to the ruins of the old castle is not too demanding, but be cautious if the ground is wet to avoid slipping and falling down the slope. I recommend the path starting from Vugrinščak, rather than the one next to the Church of St. Michael, as the latter is much steeper. If you have children in strollers, don't go up; if you have a playful child, don't go up; if you have a partner who is inactive and spends all day on their phone and computer, also don't attempt to visit the old town, as it could be a risky, even perilous adventure.
We didn't encounter anyone on the trail, nor in the old town, although considering that it's school holidays, I thought Samobor would be full of day-trippers from Zagreb today. But I overestimated my fellow citizens; luckily for us, they opted to go to Sljeme because the cable car is free these days. Supposedly, it's as crowded as an anthill on Medvednica these days, and there's an endless wait to get on the cable car.
So, we had the old town to ourselves, and that was a really good feeling. Only the monumental walls of the castle remain today, speaking of its former grandeur, and from them, you can imagine the old glory of the castle. The walls are preserved only in a small part, and it would definitely be necessary to invest more funds to prevent further decay of this heritage. During our stay, there was a strong wind, and the sounds it produced gave the impression that we were surrounded up here by something supernatural that would throw some stone from the walls at us at any moment. Fortunately, we had a cross, garlic, and pepper spray with us, so nothing went wrong, and we concluded that the local evil spirits are just plain cowards. With that realization, we cautiously descended the same path towards Samobor. In any case, this was a pleasant and unpretentious outing that I recommend to everyone.
