点评：There’s not much left of infamous Andersonville prison. It was never more than a wooden stockade, and thousands of prisoners in tents. What’s left is reconstructed sections of the stockade, cannon-lined earthworks, and stone memorials. A 30-minute audio guide and driving tour explain the site (it’s not a long walk but is totally exposed to the sun). There is also the beautiful cemetery, whose rows of pristine graves contrast with the squalor at the prison camp.
The visitors center also houses the POW Museum, which covers all aspects of the history of American POWs, and includes many fascinating artifacts from POWs. It’s a story of perseverance in horrible conditions.
It takes 2-4 hours to visit the site, depending on how much you want to read/watch at the museum and whether you do the full audio tours.
