点评:The Pride of Boston
Boston Public Garden — put it on your list. It's free, it's downtown, and it sits right across Charles Street from Boston Common, so you get both in one stroll. Both immaculate.
The statues got me. Washington on horseback at the Arlington Street entrance, and over by Boylston there's Thaddeus Kosciuszko — the Polish engineer Washington made a colonel — holding the plans for West Point. Sumner, Wendell Phillips, the Ether Monument. A whole history lesson disguised as a walk.
I've been here in every season now. Summer brings the Swan Boats gliding around the lagoon, an accordion player and a conga drummer holding court on the bridge. Winter turns the whole place into a snow globe — and somebody dresses the Make Way for Ducklings statues in Christmas sweaters, which is worth the trip alone. Fall is golden leaves underfoot; spring brings the tulips back.
A Saturday afternoon stroll here never disappoints — you never know what you'll find. A typewriter poet will write you a poem on any topic, any price. I've watched witches picnic under the trees, wedding parties posing in cotillion gowns, and one evening a full "Marry Me?" setup under the trees, candles and all.
Absolutely outstanding. If you're in Boston, go.
Kindest regards,
Kooliejoe
