Presidential home of James A Garfield yields great stories about the great man!
James A. Garfield National Historic Site的点评
点评:On the Garfield Trail, this was our third JAG site of the day. And our longest stop since it is a Presidential site run by the National Park Service. James Garfield and his wife Lucretia raised their family here, and it is where Garfield was living during his political career up to his presidency in 1881. The house remained in the family for another 50 years before selling it to the Case Western Reserve Historical Society. Eventually it was handed over to the NPS. So it has been inhabited and maintained since the Garfields built the house. And it is a beauty! Lovely parlor, dining room, bedrooms, and the Garfield Memorial Library (precursor to the now official Presidential libraries). Our tour guide Allan was terrific, sharing all the details on the family and the house. The Visitors Center has a museum with a look at Garfield's life and times. If you have time, enjoy the video introduction to Garfield and the site. Free admission. Free guided tours of the house. Free parking. Hours change seasonally so check the website for details. Allocate a couple hours there and in nice weather, stroll the grounds!
