We visited SeaWorld San Antonio with our two young children and were disappointed with nearly every aspect of the experience.
First, the park advertises an opening time of 10:30 AM, which already seems fairly late. What isn't made clear is that only part of the park opens at that time. The remaining areas didn't open until 11:00 AM, and many rides weren't operating until around 11:30 AM. Throughout the day, several rides were closed or experienced intermittent shutdowns. Water rides in particular would randomly close and reopen, making it difficult to plan our day.
We also purchased the All-Day Dining Deal for our family of four, which turned out to be unnecessarily frustrating. The process was inconsistent between restaurants. Some locations required us to place each meal order separately, while others allowed us to order everything together. What qualified as a meal also varied, with some locations including both a side and dessert while others only allowed one or the other. At one location, we experienced difficulties scanning our dining passes, and the employees were unable to effectively assist us. Considering how expensive the food is and how small the portions are, the entire dining experience was disappointing.
The worst part of our visit, however, happened in the evening.
We decided to have dinner at the park before leaving to get our money's worth from the dining passes. The BBQ restaurant took an exceptionally long time to prepare our food, which delayed our departure.
Unfortunately, SeaWorld's Halloween event was underway by the time we were trying to leave. While we knew there was a Halloween event taking place, we were unaware that it was recommended for ages 13 and older. We did not see this age recommendation clearly communicated during the ticket purchasing process. Given that SeaWorld is marketed as a family-oriented park, we had no reason to expect that remaining in the park into the evening would expose our young children to something this intense.
As we attempted to exit, Halloween scare actors repeatedly approached and targeted our children, who were visibly frightened. What should have been a simple walk out of the park became an incredibly upsetting experience. Our children were terrified and crying, yet the actors continued their behavior despite their obvious distress. We were simply trying to leave the park.
