"What will it be like when men and women are truly EQUAL?"
Women's Rights National Historical Park New Yorkl的点评
点评:I know this little historical gem is in this sleepy little town in Upstate NY and it might be out of the way... BUT it is worth your time! I have been to the Women's Rights Historical Park a few times over the past 20 years. This year though it just hit differently. In light of the strides we have made, it puts in stark contrast how far we still have to come for equality.
The most glaring change was the posted notices that indicated to "let them know if you have identified any signs or other information that are negative about past or living Americans". I mean... the whole site is a park that recognizes that women have had to fight to be equal... that we deserved the right to vote and have a say in the government that governs us all! I needed to be there. I needed to bring my sons. I needed the place to have a "screaming room!" But alas....
Very informative exhibitions, though some were under "construction". But it seemed more like "re evaluation". Not only did the curatorial team choose to honor the achievements of the notable women, Suffragists Cady-Stanton, Lucy Burns, and Alice Paul... The women pictured were VERY diverse. I think most women will "see" themselves in the figures of the past and strive to continue the legacy!
This park stands hopefully forever as a reminder of how far we have come and how far we still need to go.
The "waterfall" monument outside over the Declaration of Sentiments was truly moving...
Worth the drive. Bring your daughters as a matter of course... bring your sons as a matter of EQUALITY!
