红岩峡谷国家野生生物保护区的点评
点评：We were glad we did our homework in advance. This park is so popular during the cooler months that they've instituted a timed entry system. We signed up online for our entry and were glad we did. Signs at the entrance said they were sold out for the day. If everyone would have done their due diligence, the lines at the entrance would have been short. As it was, we did have to wait a bit, and when we showed our pass to the park attendant, she exclaimed, "Finally! Someone with their S*** together!"
The visitor center is lovely - it's just inside the fee station, and you'll want to do this first because the scenic loop drive is one way. There's a huge expanse of windows showcasing the scenery, along with a video loop that plays nonstop. And don't miss the outdoor exhibits in the back of the building.
There's so much to see and do here, you'll not be able to do it all. We enjoyed our hike at Calico Tanks (water was flowing since it had rained recently). We did a picnic at Willow Spring Picnic Area, and saw the petroglyphs and pictographs nearby. We then exited the Scenic Drive and went to the adjacent part of the park that is not part of the fee area, enjoying the Red Spring Boardwalk, with its many petroglyphs along the rocky hillslope. Bring your binoculars so you can view them!
