点评:There's a reason Saint John Cathedral is #6 of 246 Savannah attraction found on Tripadvisor. This cathedral near Lafayette Square at 222 East Harris Street had humble beginnings in 1799 as a small wooden church. A second church was constructed nearby in 1820. In July 1850 it officially became a cathedral and was heavily damaged by a hurricane a few weeks later. A new cathedral was constructed in 1873 under a name not approved by the Vatican and reverted to Saint John in 1896. Two years later, a fire destroyed the interior. Reconstruction continued for 13 years, and the impressive stained-glass windows were imported from Austria in 1904. Further restorations—most of what is now seen—began in 1959. Not until 1998 were the final embellishments completed.
All that is history. What we see now is astounding exemplified by the accompanying photos. When walking about the famed Savannah squares, it would be a pity not to enjoy an hour or two at one of Savannah’s impressive structures.

这些都已成为历史。如今的景象令人叹为观止,附上的照片便是最好的证明。漫步于萨凡纳那些著名的广场时,若不花一两个小时来欣赏当地那些宏伟的建筑,实在是一种遗憾。
