点评:During our two days in Newport, we took some time to walk on Bellevue Avenue from Ocean Avenue up to Memorial Blvd. Lots to see, although some houses are difficult to see due to the trees and foliage and walls. We enjoyed houses designed by such architects as Richard Morris Hunt (The Breakers, Marble House, and Ochre Court, among others) , Horace Trumbauer, and Mead, McKim and White. There are a couple of shingle style houses that are amazing. And connecting the owners of these "summer cottages" with other houses we've visited throughout New England makes their stories all the more interesting. It was quite a stroll as we came across each house, learned a bit about the original owners and the style of the house as well as the design of the gates and fences and other sculptural details. It was quite helpful to have done some homework before we set out to stroll since we wanted to see particular houses for its architect or style of architecture or for its original owners.
