点评:This site was the impetus for our roadtrip out East...as they are hosting a terrific exhibition of Black painter Robert S Duncanson landscape paintings. This library was founded in 1747 and is the 2nd oldest library in the United States; the building (the original portion; it has numerous additions) is the oldest purpose-built library building in the country. It's a membership library (members only can borrow from the collection), but it is open to the public. We happily wandered about the main floor to enjoy its decor and art and architecture. Then we took in the Duncanson exhibition (for a small admission fee) and had an opportunity to chat with the Executive Director about the exhibition, the artist and abolitionist, the intent behind the paintings, the collector behind the paintings, and how the exhibition came to be. Enlightening! We also took in the Newport in the Age of the Revolution gallery! So interesting!! We enjoyed our visit as we were welcomed as soon as we stepped through the door. And each staff member that we talked with was friendly and shared info and suggestions.
