点评：This 18th-century tavern tells the story of early America. With the end of the American Revolution in 1783, attention turned to building a new nation. Taverns like these provided a place for discussing revolutionary ideas like liberty, equality, and justice, along with how best to put them into practice. Entry is $5, and you can take a guided tour or choose to explore on your own. It's a small tavern-museum, but it occupies three floors and is accessible only by stairs. It took us half an hour to explore on our own. The first floor consists of two rooms—the first, a large one, is set with various decorative dishes from the era and a table setting that shows us tourists how noblemen of the time spent evenings with friends or during a stopover on a journey.
This tavern is famous for having hosted five American presidents within its walls, beginning with George Washington and his wife. The second floor contained hotel rooms where noble guests stayed overnight (beds, bed linen, pillows), and in the next room were their servants, who slept on the floor on thin mattresses.
The third floor is a beautiful grand ballroom, famous for the fact that President George Washington and his guests celebrated his birthday here twice. An interesting museum with a rich history, but with very few exhibits or furniture.
